Last week I had the pleasure to start a collaboration with Google CSI:Lab on their training programs for Innovation and Creativity, which are delivered both internally and to corporate customers.
We wanted to enhance the existing curriculum and include Pretotyping mindset and principles. Incidentally, Pretotyping is itself a Google-born mindset and methodology to validate market appeal and actual use of innovations early on in the developement process.
We had some very intense days of learning and sharing around Design Thinking and Pretotyping.
The greatest insight for me, I'd call it a 10x moment, was when we uncovered how well Design Thinking and Pretotyping complement each other in the way they bring the Customer / User in the New Product Development equation.

Historically Product Development has been a product-centred process driven by developers and designers. Conversely Design Thinking sits at the interface between designer and customer, making sure that the solution being designed is the one customers need or ask for.
Pretotyping is complementary to Design Thinking in that it sits at the interface between product and customer, making sure that the declared or uncovered need will really trigger customers' action to buy it (or get it / use it) .
